Pickford believes his stunning work at Everton is one of the key reasons he has reigned for so long as England's number one.The Blues goalkeeper, whose individual brilliance was crucial to the club surviving in the Premier League through recent years of struggle, has long argued that he can prove his worth at international level without having to leave Merseyside in search of trophies and European football.

His ability to hold off the challenges of countless rivals through his 81 England caps - all earned while playing for Everton - has been proof of that.

It has also served as inspiration for the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and James Garner, emerging stars who have both now been recognised by the senior international setup.

Pickford has been exceptional for England during a golden period for the national team, albeit one that is yet to yield silverware.
