'NO PLANNED MILITARY DRONE OPS WITH MOD' SAY AIRFIELD OWNERS

A Gwynedd councillor has called for assurances that an airfield site is not being used for the development of drones for military purposes.

space flight testing facilities have been opened at the Snowdonia Aerospace Centre (SAC) at Llanbedr Airfield, Gwynedd. The leaseholders have confirmed to Gwynedd Council, following a councillor's question, that it had no planned military drone operations with the Ministry of Defence Snowdonia Aerospace Centre

Councillor Beca Brown asked the question during Cyngor Gwynedd's full council meeting on Thursday, October 2.

She had raised the query over the Llanbedr site near Harlech, during a question and answer session, during the meeting held in the Dafydd Orwig council chamber in Caernarfon.

The site, near Harlech, originally opened around 1941 as an RAF base and was home to a number of squadrons during and after the Second World War before being decommissioned in 2004.
