Mount has an admirer in Amorim, but he could still find it hard to win place in first team

IT took Ruben Amorim just one training session at Carrington to decide that Mason Mount was a player with a future under him at United.

- By TYRONE MARSHALL

After a disappointing first season at the club following his £60million move from Chelsea, a change of manager looked set to be a turning point for Mount.

Since then, the compliments have rarely stopped, but on the pitch, the story has barely changed. Mount had gone five months without a start until playing - and scoring - against Brentford on Sunday.

Even then, he lasted less than an hour despite being one of United’s most dangerous attacking players.

In his first interview with club media after becoming United’s head coach, Amorim was waxing lyrical about Mount and what he had seen from the 36-cap England international in his first two weeks.

"Mason Mount... I have to tell you I love that kid," he said. "You can see in his eyes that he wants this so bad. And this is the most important thing for me.

"I know he was suffering from injuries, he was not on the pitch, but now he’s trying to stay fit and we hope he can continue to be fit, to show all the talent that he’s shown, for example, in Chelsea."

Staying fit has again proven to be the hardest part for Mount.
