Land, sea and air response to reports of person in Strait

REPORTS of a person in the Menai Strait and a disabled jet ski sparked a major sea, land and air response.

The incident happened on Saturday afternoon near Plas Newydd.

The alarm was raised over concerns there was a person in the water and two others on a broken down jet ski.

Coastguard rescue teams and the helicopter were dispatched along with a lifeboat crew from Beaumaris RNLI.

A spokesperson for the lifeboat station said: “On Saturday at 3.33pm (4 April 2026), the volunteer crew members of Beaumaris RNLI received a request from HM Coastguard relating to a report of one person in the water and possible another two aboard a disabled jet ski, in adverse weather conditions located near Plas Newydd on the Menai Strait.
