Driver overtook car on bend then crashed into oncoming bus

A CARELESS driver "stupidly" overtook a car on a bend and crashed into an oncoming bus, leaving his several people injured.

Andrew Spriggs attempted the “unsafe manoeuvre” on the Coast Road at Mostyn in Flintshire.

The Renault driver left his former partner and passenger Julie Rowlands with multiple injuries. He himself was hurt and the bus driver was injured and off work for four months.

Spriggs, 69, formerly of Ffynnongroyw but now of Vermont Grove, Thornton Cleveleys, Blackpool, admitted a charge of causing serious injury to Ms Rowlands by careless or inconsiderate driving in the incident on the A548 Coast Road.

Yesterday, a judge at Mold Crown Court gave grandfather Spriggs a 12-week jail term but suspended it for six months

He also fined him £500 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.

Dashcam footage of the incident on March 29, 2023 was played in court.
