Developer told to restore quarry site after pulling plans for concrete plant

Seiont Brickworks closed in 2008, ending a 200-year history of brick-making in Caernarfon.

It was taken on by Jones Bros to be used as a compound during the building of the £140million Caernarfon bypass, which was completed in 2022. The company then put forward two proposals for the large site.

These were for a gas-fired short-term operating reserve plant, and a concrete batching facility.

Both schemes triggered major opposition from locals concerned about the impact of the developments.

The first project was rejected by Welsh Government planners, and the second scheme which would have gone before planners at Cyngor Gwynedd has now been withdrawn.
