Deadly virus alert for dog owners

PET owners have been warned of a rise in cases of a deadly canine virus with “barbaric symptoms”. Vet practices in the region have flagged cases of parvo virus.

The virus is passed from dog to dog through contact with contaminated faeces.

There is a chance of a dog dying if they do not receive treatment after contracting the virus.

Symptoms can include vomiting, profuse diarrhoea which is sometimes bloody with a strong odour, as well as lethargy in the pet.

Clinics urged the public to ensure their pets' vaccinations are up to date and to take care walking their dogs.

There have been clusters of cases in the Wrexham and Rhyl areas and this week a case reported on Anglesey.
