Crashes and injuries on Welsh roads up on last year

Figures are still below the numbers seen before the 20mph limit came in

CRASHES and injuries on Welsh roads in the first quarter of 2025 are up on last year - but remain below the numbers seen before the 20mph limit came in.

The Welsh Government has published the data from Welsh police forces for the start of this year.

The figures have been watched closely since the introduction of the default 20mph limit on a vast majority of 30mph roads in the country back in September 2023.

While the new limit has proved controversial and divisive, it did reduce crashes and road deaths in the first year, but the number of speeding fines dished out also increased.

New figures released for the first three months of this year show the number of collisions and casualties has increased when compared to the same period in 2024.
