'Cowardly' robber pushed over shop worker as he fled

Gareth Jones, 25, of Cwrt Berllan, Prestatyn, was jailed for 16 months for robbery in Rhyl

A ROBBER who stole goods from a store pushed over a “courageous” shop-worker as he fled. His victim hit her head on metal bollard outside the store.

Gareth Jones and two accomplices targeted the One Stop shop in Rhuddlan Road in Rhyl late on October 31, 2023.

They collected items and one asked about Toblerone, making the shift managers suspicious.

Jones, 25, admitted robbery and was yesterday jailed at Mold Crown Court for 16 months.

His accomplices, Anthony Horan, 46, and James Birtwistle, 32, admitted theft, with both receiving community orders.

Prosecutor Karl Scholz said shift manager Gail Lyne saw the three men enter the store at 9.15pm. Each took a basket.

James Birtwistle put two large selection boxes in his basket and asked Ms Lain if they stocked Toblerone. She said no and found this unusual, said Mr Scholz.

Ms Lain went to the door, pressing her personal security alarm.
