Community-owned pub to shut for months for a major revamp

A Gwynedd pub and selfcatering unit bought by the community will undergo a massive investment to ensure their future.

The Tafarn y Plu in Llanystumdwy was purchased by members of the local community in August 2019.

The pub had been placed up for sale and there was a strong desire from local residents to ensure its future.

Community group Menter y Plu raised more than £80,000 from a share offer, supported by grant funding and an interest free loan from the Community Asset Development Fund, WVCA.

The community group also purchased the nearby chapel Capel Tabernacl (Capel Bach) when it came up for sale in 2020 to use as selfcatering accommodation to support the pub.

Now they are about to embark on an ambitious revamp, supported by about £2m from the National Lottery, as well as Welsh and UK governments.
