Chiesa given WC warning by Italy boss Gattuso

LIVERPOOL forward Federico Chiesa has been told he needs to be playing regularly if he is to realise his World Cup dream by new Italy boss Gennaro Gattuso.

- By PAUL GORST

The forward made just one Premier League start last season in a 3-2 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion after the Premier League title had been won by Arne Slot’s side.

The £12m signing from Juventus featured for just 464 minutes across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign and, as a result, has been linked with a move away, with clubs in Italy linked with a swoop.

Reds boss Slot said last month that Chiesa will be given a full pre-season to prove himself after his late addition to the squad in 2024 on the back of virtually no summer programme at Juve.

But the forward has been linked with a return to his homeland, with Serie A champions Napoli reportedly interested.
