SUMMER EXCLUSION ZONE TO BE REINSTATED AFTER 'RECORD HIGHS' OF BIRDS AND SEALS

- By ANDREW FORGRAVE

A SIX-month exclusion zone on a section of Anglesey’s coast is be reinstated this summer.

Adventure activities such as coasteering and rock climbing will again be banned from a 1.8-mile stretch of coastline to enable wildlife to recover.

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) first imposed the exclusion zone last year following a request from RSPB Cymru to protect the area.

Now the environment body is repeating the ban following “encouraging signs of wildlife recovery” in 2025.

It will cover part of Penrhos Feilw, also known as the Range. The headland, which falls within Glannau Ynys Gybi SSSI, is leased to the RSPB by Anglesey Council, and is part of South Stack Nature Reserve.

This year's ban will start and end two weeks earlier than in 2025 - it runs from March 2 until August 31.

NRW said it was working on a long-term solution with RSPB Cymru, Anglesey Council and outdoor activity groups.

RSPB South Stack said “record higher numbers” of breeding birds and seals were seen at the site following last year’s ban.
