'Unite for Change' merger divides political analysts

THE recent announcement of a merger between the Build One South Africa (BOSA), Rise Mzansi, and the Good party, branded as 'Unite for Change,' has stirred mixed reactions among political analysts and observers alike.

Some view this alliance as a glimmer of hope, whilst others deem it a 'good idea that was not going to work.

Political analyst Goodenough Mashego expressed concern over the coalition’s leadership structure, which consists of three figures: Mmusi Maimane from the DA, Patricia De Lille from the PAC and the DA, and Songezo Zibi, a lesser-known entity in politics.

Mashigo pointed out that both Maimane and De Lille come with a history of bruised affiliations that could impede progress.

“De Lille is bruised from those experiences, and now, given the dwindling fortunes of her party, she wants to enter this venture to revive the spark. She realises that her traditional voter base, particularly the coloured community, is dwindling, especially with competitors like the Patriotic Alliance gaining traction,” Mashigo articulated.

He added that the Good party is in a vulnerable position and struggles for relevance.
