Parliament seeks criminal charges against Collins Letsoalo for skipping hearings

FORMER Road Accident Fund (RAF) CEO Collins Letsoalo could be the first person to be charged criminally for failing to appear before Parliament after being issued with a subpoena to give evidence at the parliamentary inquiry led by the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa).

Scopa has is to ask for National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza’s backing.

The hearings, aimed at investigating allegations of maladministration, financial improprieties, and misuse of public funds at the RAF, were set to take place on Tuesday and yesterday.

Scopa Chairperson Songezo Zibi expressed frustration at Letsoalo’s absence, saying the committee had exhausted all avenues to ensure his attendance.

“We believe he was duly summoned and he failed to attend. Our responsibility has been fulfilled, and now the legal processes will take place,” he said.
