Why I was moved to write play about Sycamore Gap

Playwright will explore what felling says of nation

A PLAYWRIGHT plans to bring the moving story of the felled Sycamore Gap tree to theatre audiences.

Rory Mullarkey says the production, The Most Famous Tree in the World, will focus on the emotion behind the senseless act of vandalism.

Daniel Graham, 39, and Adam Carruthers, 32, were found guilty of cutting down the tree and damaging Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland and face up to 10 years in jail.

Prosecutors had condemned the felling of the beloved landmark as a "deliberate and mindless act of destruction".
