Giles won the Ashes... and became a legend

ASHES royalty Ashley Giles is the King of Spain who scored the winning runs in the greatest Test series of all time.

Souvenir mugs in the Warwickshire club shop were supposed to acclaim Giles as the king of spin, but a glorious misprint turned him into memorabilia gold.

Twenty years ago this week, Giles turned Shane Warne's fizzing leg-break into unpatrolled territory at Trent Bridge to seal a three-wicket win against Australia and put England 2-1 up in the Ashes.

Warne had been spinning his web and, from the other end, Brett Lee's 95mph rockets had threatened to leave Michael Vaughan's men short of their 129 target until Giles (right) and Matthew Hoggard's iconic defiance.

With victory secure, Giles strode off with his accomplice and said: "Tonight, Hog, we are kings."

Every time he took a sip from his eponymous mug (circle), El Gilo was reminded of his place in Ashes history.
