So more years of hurt

FORLORN fans drowned their sorrows after another bitter Euros final blow for England's men but insisted the Three Lions were still the pride of the nation.

Millions of success-starved supporters across the UK watched in frustration as Gareth Southgate's side fell at the last hurdle for the second consecutive time after Mikel Oyarzabal's late winner in Berlin.

More than 600 miles away in fan zones in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol the eager anticipation turned to familiar heartache as England fell just short.

imageIn Newcastle, 1,800 fans flocked to Times Square where they gamely cheered their heroes on throughout. Rhys Peebles, 30, from Gateshead, said: "This hurts. But I'm so proud of the lads. You can't fault their effort at all.
