Labour calls scheme 'costly con'

THE Tories were yesterday forced to defend paying thousands of pounds of taxpayers' money to a failed asylum seeker after he agreed to move to Rwanda.

Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch claimed the Government should be pleased about the unnamed man's decision to accept £3,000, despite accusations of a financial waste.

She said: "I do think that we should be trumpeting it because one of the big arguments about this scheme was Rwanda wasn't a safe country, and actually people are volunteering to go there."
