Leukaemia lad's set for stem cell op after appeal

THE desperately ill schoolboy given the gift of a stem cell donation following a Mirror appeal is getting ready for his vital transplant and will go into hospital next week.

We first told of the worldwide search for a match for Leo Sproson, 16, who has leukaemia, in October.

Leo went into liver failure days after turning 12 and was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia last year.

He needed a stem cell transplant for a second chance at life and a donor was found just weeks after we teamed up with blood cancer charity DKMS to expand the stem cell donor register.
