Nelson's Victory scrap

A BATTLE-scarred fragment of the Union Jack that flew on Admiral Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory at Trafalgar has emerged for sale for £700,000.

The section of the red, white and blue ensign has gunpowder stains and tears from the fighting before Nelson was shot by a French sniper on October 21, 1805, when he uttered his final words, "Kiss me, Hardy", to his loyal captain Thomas Hardy.
