Lest we forget.. the teen D-Day heroine

RELATIVES of a former naval Wren who played a vital role in the success of D-Day have been remembering her after she died aged 100.

Hazel Picking was aged 19 when she worked as a signaller for ships gathered in the Solent off Hampshire for the 1944 mission that led to the end of the Second World War.

She had joined the Women's Royal Naval Service at 17.

Her son Tony said: "Hazel trained as a visual signaller.

She was stationed on the Black Isle, Scotland, HMS Rosemarkie, then Portsmouth signal station.
