Pilot schemes allowed next year

DRIVERLESS taxis and buses will be on British roads next year.

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said yesterday the government will allow self-driving commercial vehicle pilot schemes from spring 2026.

Uber will be one of the first firms taking advantage of the move.

It said yesterday said it would launch a robotaxi service in partnership with UK AI firm Wayve in London as soon as next spring.
