CHIP SHOPS ARE BEING BATTERED

Fish-only chippies will be rare

MANY traditional fish and chip shops will have to diversify over the next few years as they struggle to survive, the head of the industry warns.

Andrew Crook, 50, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers, said many are currently adding burgers and pizzas to their menus.

There are around 11,000 fish and chip shops now, while at their peak in the 1920s there were 35,000.
