THE Royal Family rolled out the red carpet for US President Donald Trump yesterday, affirming the special relationship between our two countries.

- RUSSEL MYERS

The US leader flew into Windsor Castle on his Marine One helicopter from the US Ambassador's residence in London to avoid potential protests.

The state visit has been met with fury and four men were arrested on Tuesday after images of Mr Trump and paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein were projected on the castle.

Campaign group Led By Donkeys said its nine-minute film was made as an act of “peaceful protest”.

Mr Trump greeted King Charles warmly after describing the monarch as his “friend” on his arrival to the UK on Tuesday evening.

They laughed and joked throughout the day as the King and his family produced a charm offensive during the unprecedented second state visit.

Mr Trump and First Lady Melania were treated to a family greeting outside Victoria House at Frogmore on the Windsor estate.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were deployed to meet the Trumps, as the full pomp and pageantry of the British military was delivered.

Kate smiled broadly at Mr Trump as they shook hands at Windsor Castle, with the President telling her, “you're so beautiful, so beautiful”.

Referring to Prince William as “my friend”, Trump grasped his arm and shook his hand telling him it was “great to see you again”.

They previously met in Paris in December to mark the restoration of the Notre Dame Cathedral, devastated by a fire five years ago.

SALUTE

William, 43, and Mr Trump, 79, held a private meeting for 40 minutes, with the US leader describing the prince as “so handsome” and “a good guy” afterwards. William then introduced him to “my father” the King, 76, whom Mr Trump greeted with a warm embrace.
