Far cry from kick in guts from Trump | Charles meets Ukraine's president

- DAVE BURKE and RUSSELL MYERS

BY ROYAL APPROVAL

AS his country continues its valiant bid to repel Russia's illegal invasion, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky was given a welcome show of support from the King.

The pair shook hands last night at Sandringham less than 48 hours after Ukraine's leader was berated at the White House by US President Donald Trump and Vice-President JD Vance.

imageMr Zelensky wore his customary dark trousers and sweatshirt as he met the King at the royal estate in Norfolk. They talked for nearly an hour. Last night Mr Zelensky said: "We are very thankful for the Royal Family and their support." He travelled there by helicopter after attending the summit of European leaders in Central London.

A royal source said: "The Ukrainian president was warmly received and the meeting lasted just under an hour.

"Prior to his visit to the UK, Mr Zelensky asked for the meeting with His Majesty and the government agreed for it to go ahead." The monarch will have agreed to host Mr Zelensky in a carefully calculated show of solidarity.
