THE first Secret Genius champion has already quit his job after defying the naysayers to show he is one of the UK's smartest people.

- BY NICOLA METHVEN TV Editor

Nathan Wright, 27, said he struggled to be taken seriously at university and in the civil service as he was not your archetypal brainbox.

The Carlisle fan explained: "I found there were people that looked down on me because I'm a guy who sounds a bit rough, who likes the football and having a few drinks with my mates. That's not very proper and academic.

"A lot of people, they just wouldn't listen to me. It knocks you when people treat you like that and it happens a bit in work as well, you'll have ideas and people just won't buy into them for one reason or another.

"I've had this massive reassurance that those people literally weren't right.
