Youngster battles back from adversity to repay Frank's faith

- BY ALASDAIR GOLD

THOMAS FRANK admits he was close to emotional after seeing Mathys Tel score his first goal of the season after a tough few weeks for the Frenchman.

The relief on his and Frank's faces was clear and Tel came close to a second goal at Leeds with a header that struck the bar before halftime.

One of Frank's first jobs after arriving at Tottenham was to give the green light for the club to sign Tel for £30m from Bayern Munich in June.

The young forward had failed to ignite during his loan spell in the second half of last season but the new Spurs boss saw something in him he wanted to develop.

Despite that belief, Frank had to make the difficult decision to leave the summer signing out of his Champions League squad with Tottenham having six too many players to fit into their registration spots.
