Record numbers not waiting for ambulance

BY MARTIN BAGOT Health Editor RECORD numbers of stroke victims are making their own way to A&E rather than waiting for an ambulance.

The Stroke Association is urging people to call 999 instead, warning it can make the difference between walking out of hospital or leaving in a wheelchair.

Around 27% of those who suffer a stroke reported making their own arrangements to get to hospital in 2024/25. It follows a decade of worsening ambulance delays.
