£30m a day

BRITAIN'S billionaires have seen their riches rocket over the past year while millions of ordinary people are still battling to make ends meet, research has revealed.

While many families remain in the grip of the cost-of-living squeeze, the wealth of the richest 56 people has swollen by £11billion, equivalent to more than £30million a day, according to an Oxfam report published today.

The inequality has reached the stage where the top 56 are now worth as much as 27 million other people in Britain combined, the charity calculated.

A report last year from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation found that more than one in five people in the UK lived in poverty in 2022/23 - 14.3 million.
