World's widest glacier 'melting since 1940s'

A VAST glacier that poses a threat to humanity by pushing up sea levels started to melt as far back as the 1940s, a study has discovered.
Antarctica's Thwaites Glacier - the world's widest - measures 80 miles along the western edge of the continent.
It is losing 50 billion tonnes of ice more than it is gaining in snowfall per year and that means it currently accounts for around 4% of global sea-level rise.
