Women’s vital role in aiding evacuees

A SMALL group of strong women have been providing crucial help to refugees from frontline villages since Russia's all-out invasion in 2022.

Iryna Hryschenko, the group’s coordinator, said the team - based in a church in the northern Ukrainian town of Konotop, Sumy Regionbegan their activities on the fly.

She said: “People first just showed up at the church for shelter but then it became a centre for assistance. We used social media to attract volunteers and donations.”
