Women's teams ban for trans footballers

TRANSGENDER footballers will be barred from women's teams, the sport's governing body said yesterday - as cricket bosses also looked set to impose a ban.

The Football Association said it had updated its transgender inclusion policy in the light of last month's UK Supreme Court ruling regarding the Equality Act.

At the moment trans women can play for female teams provided they have reduced testosterone levels.

But from June 1, all will be banned from the pitches. The Scottish FA has also updated its policy, so only biological females will be able play in women's matches from the start of next season.
