NHS nurses to continue safe space battle until ‘sanity is restored’

- Giles Sheldrick Chief Reporter

NURSES who are waging war on the NHS's “dangerous and unlawful” ideology say they will not stop fighting until “sanity is restored”.

The group of women have vowed to continue their battle for safe spaces at work.

They decided to take legal action after a biological male colleague - identifying as a woman called Rose - joined them in a female hospital changing room.

The case has still not been decided in their favour despite a Supreme Court decision earlier this year ruling the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex.

It should mean that women are entitled to safe spaces such as their own changing rooms, but many institutions have so far failed to fully comply with the ruling.

The women say their fight is now on behalf of all those still being wronged by the rules that have not been enforced.

They have been targets of hate and harassment as parts of the public sector continue to resist the landmark gender ruling.

Group member Bethany Hutchison, 35, said: “We remain unbowed and unmoved and are determined to see this through as a group.  We mean it when we say we are doing this, not just for ourselves, but for women and girls, mothers, daughters and sisters across the UK.

“Women’s and girls’ dignity and safety have been compromised for too long. The ideology that places women at the bottom of the pile has gone too far. This is not just happening in the NHS, but across workplaces and institutions.”

Their ongoing legal action was launched after they said Rose – a male nurse identifying as female – loitered for too long as they changed.
