Veteran, 100, follows in the footsteps of Captain Tom

A SECOND World War veteran aged 100 has walked hundreds of miles around his garden to raise money for charity after being inspired by the late Captain Sir Tom Moore.

Lance Corporal Harold Jones, who served in India and Burma, laps his back garden 30 times every day in all weather conditions.

The great-grandfather started his daily walks in 2020 and began fundraising for the MND Association after losing several friends to motor neurone disease.

So far he has raised over £43,000 and clocked up an impressive 41,550 laps, or 661 miles- the equivalent of walking to Germany from his home in Sutton Coldfield, West Mids.

He said: "Captain Tom did inspire me but I've now walked a far greater distance than he did in the end.

"I always refer to myself as Lance Corporal Harold.

Captain Tom was a captain so I thought I'd go to the other end of the spectrum.
