DONALD Trump launched a fresh attack on Labour’s North Sea shutdown yesterday as he claimed Britain was wasting a “treasure chest” of oil and gas.

Having told Sir Keir Starmer to cut taxes and illegal immigration the previous day, the US President said levies on fossil fuels are “so high...it makes no sense”.

The online broadside came as Mr Trump, who has been on a “working holiday” in Britain, opened a course at his golf club near Aberdeen — the centre of the UK oil industry.

Posting on his Truth Social network, the Republican said: “North Sea Oil is a treasure chest for the United Kingdom. The taxes are so high, however, that it makes no sense. They have essentially told drillers and oil companies that ‘We don’t want you’.
