THEY are two Uniteds heading in very different directions.

Newcastle were rampant and, if the Carabao Cup was not enough, they are now in pole position to get a Champions League place.

In stark contrast Manchester United are on course for their worst season in the Premier League and, on this evidence, they will need a miracle to win the Europa League.

Ruben Amorim admitted three months ago this might be the worst team in United’s history. He got that right.

This was their 14th defeat of the season, equalling last year, and they can no longer reach their previous worst Premier League points tally of 58.

Even without head coach Eddie Howe, who was in hospital because of illness, Newcastle ripped the visitors to shreds as they did the league double over the Red Devils for the first time in 94 years.
