Cool hand Lukas penalty gives Leeds perfect start

SUB NMECHA SINKS TOFFEES

LUKAS NMECHA'S 84th-minute penalty gave Leeds a dream start to life back in the Premier League.

The former Wolfsburg striker had been on the pitch for less than 10 minutes, but he coolly drilled his spot-kick into the corner of the net after James Tarkowski had been adjudged to have handled.

Anton Stach's shot ricocheted off Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and struck Tarkowski on the arm.

And despite Jordan Pickford diving the right way the penalty found the net. Everton manager David Moyes remonstrated with referee Chris Kavanagh at the end, but the win was no more than Leeds deserved after dominating against the listless visitors, who struggled to rouse themselves even with the late introduction of Jack Grealish for his Everton debut.

Leeds started three of their summer signings, though there was no involvement for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who joined the club on Friday.

Of the newcomers, Gabriel Gudmundsson was particularly impressive, working in tandem with Willy Gnonto down the left.
