Sturgeon reveals her marriage is over

NICOLA Sturgeon has announced "with a heavy heart" that she and her husband Peter Murrell have split after 22 years together.

The couple used to be one of the most powerful in UK politics, with Ms Sturgeon serving for more than eight years as Scotland's first minister while Mr Murrell was chief executive of the party she led, the SNP.

In recent years they have both been under police investigation over party finances, with Mr Murrell charged last April in connection with the embezzlement of funds.

Separated

Ms Sturgeon was held then released without charge in June 2023. Both insist they have done nothing wrong.
