Saturday post may be axed as cost-saver

ROYAL Mail's Saturday deliveries are under threat after Ofcom called for evidence on how it may adapt to dwindling demand for paper post.

The regulator is reviewing the 500-yearold delivery service's obligation to put letters through up to 32 million doors, six days a week.

It is thought dropping to five days may save the firm up to £225million annually, while research has suggested consumers are "largely indifferent" about losing Saturday.
