Sarah Brown: Death of our baby Jennifer was greatest loss

GORDON Brown's wife Sarah has described the death of their baby daughter as "the greatest loss".

Jennifer died in January 2002, 10 days after being born seven weeks prematurely.

Sarah and her husband, who was then Chancellor and went on to become Prime Minister, set up the Jennifer Brown Research Laboratory in 2004.

Based at Edinburgh University, it aims to improve understanding of the causes of early labour and how it can be prevented.
