Last-gasp eagle sets up Mcllroy for play-off win

RORY McILROY savoured “a pretty cool year” after adding a second Irish Open title to his Masters triumph ahead of the Ryder Cup later this month.
The world No.2 completed the career Grand Slam with April’s triumph at Augusta.
And he followed up by winning his home Open with a thrilling playoff victory over Joakim Lagergren yesterday.
Mcllroy had to eagle the 72nd hole from 27 feet just to take it to a playoff, after the Swede’s own stunning eagle at the 16th.
The first two extra holes were tied in birdie fours but Lagergren found the water with his approach third time around, allowing Mcllroy to secure victory with two putts.
