Prostate cancer boost as scientists discover two different variants
Daily Express
|March 01, 2024
A NEW form of aggressive prostate cancer has been identified by a team using artificial intelligence in a find that could save thousands of lives.
It is hoped the discovery could lead to tailored treatments for each individual patient according to a genetic test - also delivered using AI.
The Cancer Research UK-funded study using AI to analyse DNA found prostate cancer, which affects one in eight men in their lifetime, includes two subtypes.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer affecting men in the UK, with around 52,000 cases a year, said Cancer Research UK.
The charity's Dr Rupal Mistry said: "The work published today has the potential to make a real difference to people affected by prostate cancer. The more we understand about cancer the better chance we have of developing treatments to beat it.
