THE Prince and Princess of Wales left a lasting legacy on one of Britain’s most deprived towns yesterday – of selfies, charity funds, comfort and inspiration.
The couple road-tested a new type of Royal visit – dubbed a community impact day – which aims to marry funding with lasting progress and memories.
William and Kate raised £345,000 for mental health services as they spent time in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, where a third live in some of the nation’s most deprived neighbourhoods.
Their natural rapport with those they meet was evident when they gamely posed for selfies with young fans.
But the Royals appeared shocked at hearing of nurses and teachers forced to resort to food and clothes banks.
William, 40, commented: “Terrible” during a visit to the Rainbow Centre, a one-stop shop which also offers showers, debt advice and mental health support.
