PM told: 'Don't cave in to French on fishing'

SIR Keir Starmer was urged to "stand up" to French president Emmanuel Macron amid claims he is to capitulate to the EU on fishing.

The Prime Minister is said to be preparing to hand over more maritime rights to Brussels in return for a defence deal.

France is said to want assurances on fishing in return for UK companies having the chance to bid for contracts under a security pact backed by an EU fund.

Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge said: "To actively shut out UK defence companies from this fund is ill-judged and ill-timed.
