Plans to let bank data be spied on

CIVIL servants could be given “dangerous” powers to access the public’s bank accounts under Government plans.

The Public Authorities (Fraud, Error and Recovery) Bill will allow mid-ranking officials to ask banks to share personal information about a person’s account without a court order, and extract funds if they “reasonably believe” money is owed to taxpayers.
