Overhaul of workers' rights fuels big demand for lawyers

DEMAND for employment lawyers is growing, with legal firms seeking to bulk out their practices ahead of a pending workers’ rights overhaul.

The Employment Rights Bill was introduced to Parliament in October by the Labour Government.

Proposals include ending exploitative zero-hour contracts, banning fire and rehire tactics and extending employment rights from day one.

However, businesses have been vocal about how much these policies will cost and how uncertain the process has been throughout the reading of the Bill. The Government's own economic analysis even stated that firms face around £5billion a year in additional costs due to the legislation.
