'One in, one out' bid migrant tells why he crossed the Channel in small boat

A MIGRANT crossed the Channel from France by small boat even though he had already legally applied to come to the UK under the “one in, one out” scheme.

The Iranian asylum seeker boarded the boat after “nobody called” him following his application under the new deal struck with France.

Ali, who did not give his surname, revealed his family was already living in the UK and had been keeping him informed about negotiations between Sir Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron.

After the deal was struck, Ali ended up trying to reach the UK outside the official system, boarding a dinghy in Gravelines.

He said: “Nobody called, nobody contacted me.

“The first day, the day it [the form] was uploaded, I applied.

“I don’t think they will really take people. I think it is just a Government thing.”
