On the crest of a Waverley for a trip along the Thames

THE world's last seagoing passenger paddle steamer sailed past the towering skyscrapers of the City of London as she made her way along the Thames yesterday.

The Waverley was launched in 1946 and named after Sir Walter Scott's first novel.

She was built to replace an earlier Waverley which was sunk by enemy fire during the Second World War while helping to evacuate troops from Dunkirk, France.
