NATO jets scrambled as Putin hits Ukraine with 500 drones

RUSSIA killed at least five people as it launched aerial raids at Ukraine, in a major weekend attack that targeted civilian infrastructure.

Moscow fired more than 50 ballistic missiles and around 500 drones, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

NATO warplanes were scrambled over Poland in response.

Warsaw's Operational Command said: "Polish and allied aircraft are operating intensively in our airspace, while ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems have been brought to the highest state of readiness.
