The drama, which tells the story of community stalwarts wrongly accused of stealing money, delivered the gong for limited drama, beating disturbing drama-thriller rival Baby Reindeer.

ITV also scooped a special award for commissioning the TV dramatisation of what still is a very British scandal and starred Toby Jones, Monica Dolan and Julie Hesmondhalgh.

Hounded

Baby Reindeer, which tells the story of an aspiring comedian and his stalker, saw Jessica Gunning named best supporting actress for her role in the smash hit Netflix series.

It was inspired by the real-life experiences of creator Richard Gadd and sees his character, Donny, hounded by a woman called Martha (Jessica), after he serves her a free cup of tea in the pub where he works.
